More Tough Mudder Pics

Better late than never!

Allan attempts the mystery obstacle.  If it had a name, I missed it..

Going...

Aww, not quite!

He was a good sport about it, though!

Alright, then.  You can stop crawling in the mud now..

Will Steph do any better?

So far so good...

Still going...

(She kinda stopped at this point to assess her situation..)

Still going...

Just a little further..

Is she stuck?

Nope, she's getting close now!

Score!

They are starting to look tired here.  That water was disgusting.

I caught up with them again just as they're about to jump into the Arctic Enema.

Allan climbed out first.

Well, he sort of rolled out.

But then he turned around to help Steph!

She's struggling a bit here.  The Arctic Enema is basically a muddy ice bath.

Brrrr...(I lost track of them at this point until the end.)

At the finish line getting their orange headbands.

What better way to finish the event than with a couple of ice cold beers?

Tough Mudder 2013!

Today, my wife and her uncle completed their first Tough Mudder!  I went along to watch and take photos.  I got some decent shots with my own phone and several more with my wife's iPhone.  For now, I'm posting the pictures I took with my phone; the rest will come tomorrow.

At any rate, the Tough Mudder was, well, tougher than expected due to heavy rainfall last night.  It was even tough on me as a spectator; walking several miles back and forth through the course to get photos along muddy trails and through puddles can suck the life out of anyone.  Still, it was worth it to get these pictures and to support my wife.  Also, I'm pretty sure I'm doing the next one with them; seems like more fun than spectating. ;)

They both did amazing, as did most everyone that was there.  They should all be proud of their accomplishment.  Also, the event organizers apparently give large sums of money to Wounded Warrior Project.  They've raised over $6 million dollars this year.  That, too, is something to be proud of!

As a final note, one of the event coordinators told us early registration for the 2014 Tough Mudder in Austin begins tomorrow.  I bet you'll be able to find more information here if you check tomorrow.  If I can fit it into my schedule, we just might have to go try this one out.

With no further delay (without further ado?) here are the pictures!

This was the last time they were basically clean all day.

They had to climb this wall just to get to the starting line...

...they both made it!

This is just coming out of the starting gate; still kinda clean.

What was that about clean!?

Yes, I think Allan had some mud in his teeth; just a little...

They still had a decent amount of energy at this point.  Later on?  Not so much..

This shot does a good job of showing just how muddy it was at times.

You can almost make out the 'Tuffians' logo Steph made for their shirts.

Tomorrow I'll try to update this photo with whatever this obstacle was called.
However, I think 'large muddy hill' works just fine.

Steph gets a hand up.  Watching the teamwork and camaraderie on
display here was awesome. Everyone helped everyone.

Allan scrambles up behind her...

...and gets a hand up, too.  Hopefully more pics tomorrow!

Best Headline to See Before Boarding

I mean...crash landings are safer now, right?

Traffic Cameras: Ever About Safety?

I saw this on the front page of the Chicago Tribune this morning.  Granted, it's Chicago, but the opening statement here suggests an open and unapologetic view of traffic cameras as primarily a revenue stream.

Photos from West to East

I've been on both sides of the country the last few days; just thought I'd share a few of my favorite pictures from both locations.

He/She didn't seem to mind us hanging around.

Random shot of Seattle.

Somewhere between Seattle and Richland.

The view from my hotel room in Boston.
